Brad Ovard, Utah portrait photographer

About Brad

I believe the best portraits come from genuine conversation, thoughtful direction, and creating an environment where people feel comfortable being themselves.

The best photographs rarely happen in the first few minutes of a session. They happen after the conversation begins, confidence grows, and the camera gradually becomes less important than the person in front of it.

Whether I am photographing a senior, a bride, a family, or a portrait simply for someone’s own enjoyment, my goal is the same: to create photographs that feel natural, timeless, and worth returning to for years to come.

My Approach

I believe every person photographs well when they are given the opportunity to relax and be themselves. Rather than relying on complicated posing, I prefer to guide people naturally, making small adjustments that flatter each individual while leaving room for genuine expression.

What to Expect

Sessions are conversational, collaborative, and intentionally calm. We will talk, explore good light, make a few photographs that are certain to work, and then leave room for the more spontaneous images that often become favorites.

Why Photographs Matter

The photographs that mean the most to me are not necessarily the ones that receive the most attention—they are the ones that become part of someone’s life. A framed portrait on a wall, an album shared with family, or an image returned to years later is the greatest compliment a photographer can receive.

A Few Things I Love

Outside of photography, I enjoy music, woodworking, art, calligraphy, history, and learning new creative skills. Photography is where many of those interests come together: craft, light, composition, connection, and the chance to create something meaningful with another person.
